Valtona is a micro-meadery specialising in the brewing of Mead in a modern style. For thousands of years before the invention of Beer made from Malted Batley and Hops, there was only Mead. With the abolition of the Monasteries and the advent of imported, cheap Barley for Beer, Mead fell out of favour. Now, however, we have seen the beginnings of a revival for Mead with growing popularity in Pop-culture and an increase in sales worldwide.
Valtona Meadery is steering away from the traditional Wine-like sweet mead and instead producing lower ABV, carbonated Meads served in a pint glass. We brew in a modern style with modern brewing techniques to create Mead for the modern age.
Valtona Mead is brewed on the banks of the mighty Thames River, where the ancient Saxon Kings and Viking Jarls of lore would slake their thirst Mead! This river crossing at Waletona (Now known as Walton-on-Thames) has served as a meeting and Mead drinking point for one thousand years. Should you venture out into the wilds of Waletona you will find many ancient references to the ancient ambrosia we call Mead.
We have returned this tradition to Waletona with our Mead from a bygone age, though this is not your Grandfather’s Mead. Valtona Mead is brewed with nothing but Honey, Water and a bit of Lightning. Crafted on the back of 1000 years of brewing heritage, our Mead is brewed for maximum flavour and served with no additives, a pure, crisp, and clean beverage, a glass of honeyed joy to make our warrior ancestors proud.
